Martyr's – Chicago, IL, USA – November 9, 2011
by Anita Brodersen
The all female, New York based pop-rock band with a sling of country flavor, Antigone Rising, returned to Chicago after a slight hiatus to promote their latest studio CD, 23 Red which was released in August 2011. The band sounds different these days as they now have a new lead singer/guitarist Nini Camps heading it up. Long time Antigone Rising fans will notice that the band is still focusing on their tight harmonies and skillful songwriting and with Nini heading the show now, she is certainly taking control of the driver's wheel. Band co-founders Cathy (lead guitar) and Kristen Henderson (bass) told the Martyrs' crowd that their show was a dedication to one of their biggest fans, Christina Santiago, who sadly lost her life in the tragic Indiana State Fair accident earlier in the year. Antigone Rising performed many songs off 23 Red including No Remedy, Gracefully, Breaking Me, One Foot In, and crowd favorites included Borrowed Time, and Everywhere Is Home. Rounding out the band is long-time drummer Dena Tauriello.
Antigone Rising is still proving that their live show is must see and if you put your money on 23 Red ...well....spin that wheel and you just hit a winner!
