All Female Cast Performance of A Street Car Named Desire

This spring, Earth Pearl Collective has chosen to perform the classic play, A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams in an attempt to bring to light the serious issue of Intimate Partner Violence in same sex womyn of color couples. Statistically, between 25-33% of women who are in relationships with other women have endured some form of Intimate Partner Violence. Due to the likelihood of under-reporting with this phenomena, it can be extrapolated that more than just 1/3 of women in same sex relationships have at some time or another been involved in a partnership where Intimate Partner Violence has occurred.

Historically, those individuals who are not viewed as a part of the status quo (heterosexual, white men) have had their issues severely ignored. Queer women of color are certainly no exception. For that reason, Earth Pearl Collective has chosen to use this play in conjunction with a panel discussion on same sex Intimate Partner Violence in women of color relationships to help this community heal wounds through open and honest portrayal and discussion on the consequences and struggles that these women are consistently enduring.

Performances will run May 3-6, 2012 at the Athenaeum Theatre, 2369 N. Southport Ave., Chicago) For more information, visit www.earthpearlcollective.com.
