Chicago Singer Spotlight is a showcase open to anyone: male or female, from the seasoned professional to the aspiring beginner. And the diversity doesn’t end there. A typical show encompasses music genres of all types including: jazz, rock, country, musical theater and original material. Each show consists of four vocalists performing a four-song set with a professional house band.
For Singers
The show starts at 8 PM at FitzGerald’s (708/788-2118). Doors open at 7:30 PM. FitzGerald’s is a nationally-known venue with a wonderful sound system. Rehearsal with the band is that same evening and is also at FitzGerald’s.
You’ll be given a half-hour time slot to run your 4 songs with the band. The band consists of keyboards, bass, guitar and drums. Feel free to bring your background singers (if you have any – limit 3) to rehearsal.
You must have charts to all of your songs with copies for each musician (4). If a chart is more than 1 page, please tape the pages together (before rehearsal). Bring a cassette tape or CDs of your songs and 4 copies of your chord charts to the rehearsal. Sheet music longer than 3 pages MUST be approved by us!
You are welcome to play along with the band or you can bring one guest musician to join the band on one or all of your songs. Please note: a guest musician doesn’t take the place of any member of the Chicago Singer Spotlight Band, they join them on stage. If at all possible, have your guest musician come to rehearsal so all musical decisions can be made before the evening performance.
At the end of the evening you’re encouraged to distribute your promotional material and mailing list cards if you have any. Also, you’re welcome to sell your CD if you have one. There’ll be a media table set up by the door.
Two weeks prior to the performance, you need to provide: 1) the titles of your 4 songs in the order you are singing them, 2) the names of each song’s composer/lyricist and 3) a brief bio about you for the show program and website.

Remember, you are allowed only one complimentary guest. That includes your background singers/guest musician.
