Gabby Douglas at Pink Pearls & Pretty Dresses Mother/Daughter Empowerment Brunch

Today, iGlow Mentoring hosted a special day in honor to Mothers and Daughters with special guest, 2012 Olympic All-Around Gold Medalist Gabrielle Douglas, at the Pink Pearls & Pretty Dresses Mother/Daughter Empowerment Brunch.

The Empowerment Brunch took place just outside Chicago in Rosemont at Donald E Stephens Convention Center. Hundreds of moms and daughters had excitement ready to give way for Gabby Douglas when she entered the room. At that moment the event turned into something like a concert as all the young girls raced to the stage to get a glimpse or to take a photo. Gabrielle Douglas is an Olympic Gold Medal Champion who brought home several medals with her team including being the “first African-American gymnast in Olympic history to become the individual all-around champion.”

The day’s event took Gabby and her mom on stage for an interview led by Chicago’s very own WGCI radio personality, Nina Chantele of Gabby Douglas and mom Natalie Hawkins. Some of the questions that were asked are what commitment it took and how the separation from family to become an Olympic champion.

Participation to iGlow Mentoring event helps fund other programs to hundreds of Chicago-land girls. Find out more about iGlow Mentoring at www.iglowmentoring.org.
