In a country where large
festivals are increasingly becoming the norm, it is
a bold claim indeed to term yourself "The World's
Largest Music Festival" but that is the tagline that
the organisers at the Summerfest at Milwaukee's
Henry Maier Festival Park are going for, and if you
take a look at the stats then it's a stance that
quickly becomes hard to argue with.
As is becoming more common these
days, the Summerfest spread their acts over 2
weekends, but where most of even the biggest events
can mange at most 3 days per weekend these guys are
really pushing the boundaries with 5 full days on
the first weekend, followed by 6 on the second, for
a total of 11 days of top notch music acts. To be
honest, I'm not even sure you can refer to these as
weekends any more!
It's also one of the longest
running summer festivals too, having been going
since way back in 1968, and in it's current
incarnation you can expect to see up to a million
visitors through the gates across the whole event.
It also manages to coincide itself with the 4th of
July US Independence Day holiday too, which only
serves to up the festivities another notch, with
fireworks adding to the festival's spectacle.
