Ookay and Borgore live at Concord Music Hall

Concord Music Hall, Chicago, IL – February 7, 15

By: Mercedes Vazquez

I always try to follow up with Dim Mak Records based on the DJs that will come through Chicago and when I saw that Borgore was coming I had to buy tickets. Then I saw Ookay was another highlighter for the show and I knew this concert was going to be crazy. When I saw crazy, you know everyone is going to have a blast and their might be some girls who just get a bit too wild and strip in stage. I had already seen Ookay in Joliet and that day was amazing but let’s not focus on Joliet because the people in Chicago know how to get wild as well. Let me say that this show was sold out quickly.

Let me say that when Ookay got in stage he did not waste any time at all. He started off with ‘Bouncer’ a remix with Showtek. He mixed it up with parts of ‘Wonderwall by Oasis,’ he was bringing a lot of the classic 90s music that I grew up with and let me say he killed it that night. Many memories came back when he was playing those songs with the new modern music of today that we can hear in the radio. He’s the type of artist that doesn't have just one genre, he mixes it up and keeps you dancing the night away. You get flashbacks when you listen to songs when you were in middle school or even high school. His music has this calm brooding yet steadfast. His consistent beats contain some rap lyrics that are formed in a way that everything just goes perfect together
. Throughout the show the energy tends to pick up and we all just want to have a great night. Ookay always has to play that ‘Pina colada’ song that makes you sway your arms back and forth and singing to the song because well who didn't know that song. He the type of DJ that likes experimenting with music and does an amazing job. Ookay always had so much energy in stage that made you kept going, he even crowd surfed. Let’s just say things were going to get more intense because the night was not over yet. Everyone should check out his new EP Ghost that came out in November, it steps in a different direction and you get a taste of everything he does but he is someone you should watch live.

Ookay had us cheering for Borgore after his last song and Borgore played his ‘#NEWGOREORDER’ intro for us. So what Chicago did was go hard just with the first song Borgore played, when the beat dropped the smoke cannons when off and he mixed it with ‘Ready for Action by Alvaro & Joey Dale’ to keep the vibe at a steady pace. I was feeling the bass vibrations since I was like 3 rows from the front, yes I was that close. I love being upfront and to dance away like nobody is watching. Borgore played ‘No Flex Zone’ and had people singing the lyrics while he was dropping some dubstep remixes that makes you want to lose control. Borgore is the type of DJ that plays dubstep basslines, so if you have a passion for dubstep music, you should go to his shows. He always has modern EDM theatrics and some scandalous dancers who can work that pole. I was even speechless with what those girls can do, I wanted to be them. Borgore simply gets up on stage so people can lose their minds for a few hours and to be honest he does it pretty well. Things just kept getting better
when Borgore and the crowd started to sing ‘Sweet Dreams,’ this song is my all-time favorite from the 80s and he mixed it up with some trap beats which was not bad all. I truly enjoyed that version. Borgore blew my mind when he worked that pole. I thought things couldn't get any better but I was so wrong. He played ‘Unicorn Zombie Apocalypse’ and then the twerk contest began. Yes, there was a twerk contest for Chicago, so there was about 30 girls shaking their asses to us and do you remember I was in the front row. I didn't know where to look but I’m sure every guy was enjoying the view. So if twerking wasn't enough the keep the night alive some girl ending up flashing people on stage. Yes these things tend to happen a lot now. But I go for the music not all the scandal, but what can I say Borgore does know how to throw a show that will keep you up in your feet and entertain. I ended up getting sprayed with champagne at the end of the night by Borgore well a lot of us did. As you can see this day was nowhere near ordinary but I did have a blast. Hopefully this will not be the last time I get to see Borgore.
