May 27th marked the launch of the Conquer Cancer Foundation’s Fundraiser amidst the 51st Annual American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Meeting in Chicago, May 29-June 2, 2015.

The
Conquer Cancer Foundation funds research, develops programs to improve the
quality of life, and provide access to care for patients. Desiree Rogers, CEO
of Johnson Publishing Company and a breast cancer survivor, the Chicago Cubs, and
a host of other Chicago community and business leaders have teamed up with the
foundation to raise funds and help conquer cancer.
"As
a cancer survivor and proud Chicagoan, I am proud that Chicago is
hosting the leading cancer experts of the world and supporting their drive to
conquer cancer," said Desirée Rogers, who serves as the Honorary Co-Chair
of the campaign.
To kick off the fundraiser, on May 30th the Conquer Cancer Foundation held a Gala at the Ritz Carleton hosted by Rogers. The Gala included guests: Alpana Singh, Sommelier and Restaurateur; Ebs Burnough, Former White House Deputy Social Secretary; Neal Zucker, Entrepreneur and Philanthropist; Jay Michael, Lifestyle Architect and Real Estate Developer; and Linda Johnson Rice, Chairman of Johnson Publishing Company.

Along
with a performance from blues legend Mavis Staples, remarks were heard from W. Charles Penley, M.D., Chair of Conquer Cancer Foundation
Board of Directors; Robert Mayer, M.D, Campaign Co-Chair, Faculty Vice
President for Academic Affairs and Institute Physician, Dana-Farber Cancer
Institute; Stephen B. Kay Family Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School;
and Thomas Roberts, M.D., Campaign Co-Chair, Managing
Member of Farallon Capital Management, LLC
The
Campaign to Conquer Cancer plans to raise $150 million by June 2017 through
a mix of high-profile advertising, social media, and community and sporting
events, all with a single message – Together, we're taking down cancer.
"We are very excited to kick off The Campaign to Conquer Cancer in Chicago in conjunction with the ASCO
Annual Meeting," said W. Charles Penley, MD, FASCO, Chair of the
Conquer Cancer Foundation Board of Directors. "This great city has
welcomed the cancer community and our annual meeting for many years, and this
year the response to our campaign has been extraordinary. The Cubs, along with
dozens of other Chicago businesses, civic and business leaders, have
stepped up to ensure that the kickoff is wildly successful, and we are very
grateful for their support."
