Oak Park Hosts 'UnCorked Illinios' Wine Tasting

by Sommer Thornton

Saturday, May 30th downtown Oak Park hosted their UnCorked Illinois wine tasting.

Though Saturday’s UnCorked Illinois wine tasting was a chilly washout, the residents of this diverse western suburb flocked to the event with umbrellas and galoshes in tow. The wine tasting was organized by Downtown Oak Park, and hosted over 15 wine companies and 9 food vendors. Represented were popular Illinois wineries like Coopers Hawk Winery, City Winery, and Waterman Winery and Vineyard.

For a mere $15 in advance and $20 on-site, patrons were given seven drink tickets to try out classic and nouveau wines.

And jazz ensembles, courtesy of WDCB 90.0fm entertained the crowd throughout the day. Performances included the Chad McCullough Trio, Mike Allemana Trio, and the Barry Winograd/ Jim Ryan Duo. Fans could also purchase bottles of wine from each vendor at a discount.

There were a few obvious winners, based purely on patronage at their stations like City Winery, Glunz Family Winery and Cellars, Wyldewood Cellars Winery, and Waterman Winery and Vineyards. But there were also some wineries that offered cool new flavors based on unconventional fruit and desserts.

My favorite hands down had to be Village Vittner, who’s Oktoberfest and Grand Fortissimo is to die for!
