Coren E. McLeodEvery New Year’s Eve, it seems as though each classy guy and gal wants to celebrate the end of the year in style. Maybe 2015 was your best year yet, or maybe it was one that you would like to forget. Regardless, December 31st is meant to party hard and begin a new chapter in one's life.
I was lucky enough to score some tickets to an event happening on New Year’s Eve in the town of Mundelein, Illinois. The former place known as Mavericks now called The Loaded Buffalo was hosting an event with country favorites Suburban Cowboys and the ever popular Modern Day Romeos. I am going to have to be a little honest here: I am not a country fan in any shape or form. However, my girl Stacy wanted to go and see Suburban Cowboys. I could not pass up a girls' night with my good friend. I have seen MDR (for all the cool kids out there. LOL) a lot. MDR is a favorite among McHenry and Lake County. I first enjoyed MDR way back in my college days. I was a junior at Illinois State University in 2002. (That just totally dated me.) It was "Thirsty Thursday" and I remember seeing MDR at Daddio's. After their fun performance, I was thinking these guys are a fun time!
So, come around 8 pm, Stacy and I arrived at The Loaded Buffalo all bedazzled up. This night was going to be epic. Stacy and I had a shuttle from our hotel to the venue. Plus, OPEN BAR!!!!! HELLO! I do have to say we both looked pretty hot in our outfits that night. (I felt my sequin skirt was on point. Yet, I kept calling it a handkerchief. It was so short!) After we went to go get our first round of drinks that night, the crowd was slowly gathering onto the dance floor to jam with Suburban Cowboys.
I was enjoying a festive beer (Revolution Fistmas in case you were wondering.) while witnessing Suburban Cowboys. Almost immediately from the first guitar chord strum, there was a crowd of people decked out in cowboy/girl boots line dancing. Again, with me not being a country music fan, one thing I could truly appreciate about this band is they do a following of fans that are dead hard. It was fun to watch the line dancing and how everyone was truly enjoying themselves. Stacy even got into the excitement of it all. (She claims she does not like to dance.)
Suburban Cowboys consist of talented musicians with a female singer. Members include Hoss (Lead Vocals, Acoustic Guitar), Firefly (Fiddle, Vocals), Slinger (Lead Guitar, Vocals), Tennessee Slim (Bass, Vocals) and Buck (Drums, Vocals). I did love seeing Firefly (female) going crazy on the fiddle. The audience was thrilled when she was up there just slaying away on her instrument of choice. This was a great band to start off the night with. Hey Suburban Cowboys!!!! Great job and thanks for the great performance! You may have me listening to some country music in the future.... Maybe...
Now, everyone knows if you are going to see Modern Day Romeos, you are in for a fun and silly show. Jim Wojdyla (Lead Vocals) is a very tall front man that just loves to have a good time and it shows. MDR covers all popular songs new and old. He is accompanied by his brother Justin (Guitar, Vocals), Chris Perfect (Bass, Vocals), Mike Zaitz (Drums, Vocals) and Jordan Engelhardt (Keyboards, Vocals). After hitting up the open bar for my favorite mix drink, (a simple gin and tonic with a twist of lime) I was ready to ring in the New Year with MDR.
It was only about an hour and half until 2016 was coming in full swing. This has been a weird yet fulfilling year for me. As I started to dance to MDR and their catchy tunes, a smile emerges from my face. I was ready for 2016 to start. I am in a good place in my life. Yet, what will 2016 bring to me? I am finally doing what I want to do in life and I am grateful. However, I always think of what if?
MDR is such an enjoyment to watch. Their show at The Loaded Buffalo brought back so memories of my days back in college. I love it when they play current pop songs and put their own spin on it. The song I love when they perform is "Counting Stars" by One Republic. MDR nails this song every time they play and I cannot get enough of it. I also find it amusing when Jim displays his rap talents in front of his fans. He for sure has a legit flow and can send Kevin Fenderline running. #LOL.
Well, all I can say is New Year’s Eve at The Loaded Buffalo was a success.
Once the clock hit 12 am, the champagne was flowing and kisses were being made. (Thanks Stacy!) Every single person at the event seemed so happy and ready for 2016. I would just like to say thank you to both the Suburban Cowboys and Modern Day Romeos for a stellar night of great covers and a fun time. I know these two bands will be making their rounds in 2016. Why not make the effort to go out and see them? #Cheers
