Ever since I could remember, I have always been a chick that loves going to dive bars and seeing local bands playing covers on the weekends. There is something about being able to chill with a glass of Jameson on the rocks and just singing away to classic songs. Just being in a friendly atmosphere especially with other locals is just so fun.
The Boxes is an all-girl group hailing from the Northwest Chicago suburbs. I love seeing chicks in control and to be able to sing on their own terms. That is exactly what The Boxes put out there to the world. The Boxes consist of some very talented women. The amazing Heather is on vocals (With baby Box on the way. Congrats!), Rachel Lunas (my boss…. LOL) plays guitar, Natalie (Pixie) slaps the bass and Candace pounds the bad boy drums.
One thing that I can say about this wonderful combination of #GirlPower is that there is such skill and talent that is beyond recognition. As I pointed out, Rachel is my boss at our big girl job. (Shout out to GPS Tracking Fleetmatics!!!!) She is very professional and a natural born leader within the work place. When she is on stage, her rock persona comes out and I see a woman that plays legit guitar like it’s her bitch. Heather brings an effortless vibe with her amazing vocal talent. Candace reminds me of Patty Schemel of Hole with how she smashes the drums with her solos. And Natalie has this magical vibe surrounding her aura with her bass in hand.
The Boxes play shows all around the burbs including places like Mrs. P’s and Me in Mount Prospect and The Elbow Room in Chicago. You can catch the girls playing covers like “7 Nation Army,” “1979, ““Brass in Pocket,” and my favorite to see “Uprising.”
If you ever need something to do on the weekend, make sure you take some time to check out my friends in The Boxes. These girls know how to rock and put on a stellar show. Check them out on follow them on Facebook, Twitter and whatever else is out there. #Cheers!!!!!
