Over the weekend Somerhalder raised tens of thousands of dollars for his foundation with a VIP party and live auction.

Ian Somerhalder, star of the Vampire Diaries is a Louisiana native with benevolent heart, a sharp contrast the evil immortal he plays on the hit CW show. He hosted his first annual Step and Repeat fundraiser in Chicago and brought out local socialites and big donors.

The star-studded event was held at Galleria Marchetti in downtown River North. Ian and his wife, actress Nicki Reed walked the red carpet with celeb guests, then mingled at a cocktail party before dining on a 3-course meal. Guests included Karolina Kurkova and philanthropist and jewelry designer, Graziela Kaufman who’s dedicated proceeds from a new jewelry line to the Ian Somarhalder Foundation.

Ian raised a ton of guap for his noteable charity with VIP auction items like his autographed Teen Choice Awards and BFF time a New York Fashion Week with Karolina Kurkova. The highest bid went for $28k for two visits to the Vampire Diaries set for a live taping of an episode in their final season.

Somarhalder and his wife Actress Nicki Reed launched the ISF in 2010 with the mission to protect the environment and animals, and empower youth to reach their goals and pay it forward. Earlier this year, the Ian Somerhalder Foundation purchased 100 acres of land in Louisiana’s swampland – 70 acres will remain untouched. A highlight of the night was a short clip that showed his dedication to creating positive change through conservation, education and social services.
