The ladies of Heart, sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson, rocked The Venue Friday night at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, IN. Opening the 70 minute set with their new power rocker Fanatic, their fans were in for a whirl-wind of Heart classics and a few new songs from a new CD scheduled for release this October. With nearly 40 years of entertaining rock and roll enthusiasts, Heart's endless catalog of hits triggered welcomed responses from the audience. Diving into their hits like Magic Man, Heartless, and What About Love, reminded us of just how timeless and superb their songs are. The huge voice of Ann is still in top form and one-of-a-kind. The packed venue of Heart fans simply loved hearing her belt out Crazy On You, Barracuda, Alone and a newly arranged flute infused Dog & Butterfly (with Ann on flute duty). After completing the song Alone, the crowd gave Ann a thunderous applause and she smiled and asked the audience - "So, I guess you still like this song?" Nancy, dressed in a black jacket and black lace pants, still has the rock-n-roll moves on lead guitar and added the right amount of backing vocals while singing lead on a new song Walking Good and on their huge smash hit These Dreams. Ann showcased a new song, Dear Old America, which she dedicated to the armed services and told the audience that she and Nancy were raised in a military family and traveled around quite a bit while growing up. The final song of the night consisted of a blistering and emotional nine minute cover of the Who's, Love Reign O'er Me, which ended rather abruptly as the band members exited the stage. Crowd response was gratuitous but much to the screaming fans dismay, the show had reached its end.
The Wilson's set high standards in rock music back in their heyday, paving the way for future female fronted hard rock bands. Tonight's performance proved that they can still "kick it out" and hold their title as pioneers in the rock world. Check out Heart on tour and they will go Crazy On You!
