Chicago is getting its first major country music festival. Live Nation announced in a press release Tuesday morning that the Windy City Lakeshake, a three-day, two-stage event, will take over the FirstMerit Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island from June 19-21. Headliners will be superstars Florida Georgia Line, Brad Paisley, and Dierks Bentley.
Among the other singers already confirmed for the festival are Maddie and Tae, Ashley Monroe, Kip Moore, Justin Moore, David Lee Murphy, Joe Nichols, Cassadee Pope, and Thomas Rhett. Many more acts will be revealed in the coming weeks as summer approaches.
Tickets for the event go on sale February 2 at 10 a.m. Three-day passes cost $199.50 plus service fees, while VIP packages are available for additional charges. Fans can find more information about ticketing at lakeshakefestival.com.
Chicago previously had one-day country music festivals during the summer, but this will be the city's first multi-day, multi-stage event. Brian O’Connell, President of Country Touring at Live Nation, said in a statement, “Being a native Chicagoan, it has been a dream of mine to present a world class country music festival in my hometown. The backdrop of the beautiful skyline of Chicago, and the coolness of being right on the lake shore will enhance the incredible artists we have lined up for year one.”
Country music does have a strong fanbase in Chicago and the surrounding area, and Windy City Lakeshake organizers smartly put together a strong lineup of headliners that should bring large crowds to downtown. Florida Georgia Line are the hottest duo in country music, having scored seven straight Top-5 hits from their first two albums, Here's to the Good Times and Anything Goes.
Bentley, a Best Country Album Grammy nominee, has a dozen No. 1 hits to his credit, including his most recent smash, “Drunk on a Plane.” Paisley has been one of the most consistent performers in country music history since his arrival in 1999. The presence of artists like Monroe and Maddie and Tae, two of the genre's most promising female acts, provides optimism that the undercard will live up to the strong group of headliners.
Chicago’s Windy City LakeShake, headlined by Dierks Bentley, Florida Georgia Line and Brad Paisley, will run from June 19th to the 21st at FirstMerit Bank Pavilion at scenic Northerly Island.
