Blackout Wednesday with E and E (Emperors and Elephant)

Blackout Wednesday with E and E

By Coren E. McLeod

Each year, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, it seems like each male and female wants to party. Well, this year was no expectation.  I live in a small community.  Actually, a really small community.  So, when there is a chance for me to get out and witness a great rock show at my favorite local bar, I totally jump at the chance.

Route 12 Bar in Fox Lake is your typically watering hole with a nice, friendly crowd of suburbanites and a great line up of craft beer. The band I was looking to see that faithful Wednesday night was Emperors and Elephants. I first heard of this band back on September 19th, 2015.  E and E opened for the less than stellar band Trapt.  (I will explain in another write up...)  E and E commanded the stage at Route 20 Outhouse in Sturtevant, Wisconsin.   I was exposed to such songs as "Man of God," "Bring it Down," and a cover of the Chris Issak classic "Wicked Game."

The guys of E and E wanted to tone down their typical performance and do an acoustic set at Route 12.  The lead singer, Jesse Andrews, is such a charismatic front man that he has everyone in the room listening to every word whether singing or sharing a funny story.  Even though the show was brought down to a chill and subdue nature, the fans from around Lake and McHenry County were still rocking out to their favorite tunes from the cd "Devil in the Lake."

The other band members Ron Stoppable (bass), Jeph Stiph (Lead and Rhythm Guitar) and Jason Meudt (Drums) play with a solid impact of pure rock which pairs perfectly with Jesse's hypnotic vocal talent.  Among the 2 1/2 hour show, the band did play their songs and did a few covers as well.  Jesse was on point when he blasted out "Broken" from Seether.  One could almost hear the sorrow that was being lifted from his voice.  It was truly amazing.

I do have to say, I have seen E and E now a total of 3 times.  Each time just gets better.  I am a true fan and believe this musical act will be taking on Chicago-land like a storm.  One can just tell how they appreciate their fans and how much hometown love they feel.

In my humble opinion, Emperors and Elephants will be the band to watch in 2016.  They are currently working on their follow up album to "Devil in the Lake."  With all the pre-made pop music that is out there, its refreshing to find a pure, dirty and true to rock band like E and E.  #Cheers
