RED SUN RISING

When a band is categorized in their own genre, you know for a fact there is something unique about their brand of music.

Known as #Thread, emerging from Akon, Ohio, the widely talented band Red Sun Rising.   This band has emerged from the rock scene making them a stand out among the envy.

I became a true fan from the 1st time I heard the true to life lyrics to "The Otherside."

"Crawling through mud.  What's the difference when you come out on The Otherside...?"

I first saw Red Sun Rising in February of 2017 when they were on tour with Pop Evil at

Milwaukee's own The Rav.

I remember that night.  It was a typical cold Midwestern night.  I was sporting pale pink hair and was not happy with my life.

I was let go at a job I was for 10 years and down on my luck.   Music was my savior.  Along with writing and photography.

I pushed my editor to get me into the photo pit for Red Sun Rising.   When I found out 2 days prior I was approved for Unrated Magazine, I was thrilled!  I was ( as Matchbox Twenty would say) overjoyed!  I prepared to bring my A-Game and from the results from that night at The Rav, I was so on!

After I did my 3 songs in the pit, I couldn't wait to catch the rest of the show.  I remember witnessing and hearing their cover of Alanis Morrisette's timeless song #Uninvited.  I was floored!  The fact Mike (lead singer) could hit those notes brought tears to my eyes!  It was astounding!

Now come to Red Sun Rising 's 1st headlining tour with me covering their show at Chicago's famous Bottom Lounge on April 22nd.

After 3 years of covering national acts, I still get nervous and I get an overall sense of crazy fangirl

about to scream at the top of my lungs.

Red Sun Rising has made me listen to music on a different level.   Being at Bottom Lounge, I was going to be up close and personal.  With all the negative I had in the past year, I can say now my life doesn't suck...  ;)

The entire audience came ready.  The band came out with an energy which was a force to be reckoned with.   The 1st song of the night happened to be #Push.  And what a fantastic choice!  The lively Mike seemed like on another level getting the audience to scream back the line "Push it!"

Red Sun Rising is from Akron, Ohio.  However, this was a homecoming show for Mike considering Mike has lived in Chicago for 3 years.  You could see he was humbled by it all and he was taking it all in.

Seeing each band member perform was wonderful to catch.  Dave (guitar player) has this enduring persona mixed with a little mystery wrapped in.  He aggressively wails on his guitar with a twinkle in his eye and so plays into the audience.  (BTW: Thanks for the epic guitar pick!!!!)

Ricky (bass player) starts off gentle.  As the night goes on, he turns on his magical powers with his hardcore energy and his brilliant bass playing!  He is all over the stage thrilling all those there to party!

Back in the day, I use to play the drums and I kneel before Zod when Pat plays.  He is lighting and thunder all rolled into one.  That is all.

Ryan on guitar and that stage presence is just the world at his very feet.  Simply mesmerizing and beautiful all at the same time.

The setlist was a perfect mix of Polyester Zeal and the new album Thread.  #Deathwish was performed and it cranked the volume up to 100!  The transition between #MyMuse and #uninvited was seamlessly perfect flowing into one another.   And the encore #Emotionless brought a phenomenal performance to the perfect end...

Thank you to Red Sun Rising for going beyond the typical norm and going above what is expected at a rock show!  You have inspired me to become a standout and to make my own #thread of writing/photography.

See you soon!
