Buddy GuyIt was a beautiful night for baseball in Chicago as the White Sox were hosting the Detroit Tigers for a key Central Division match-up. The fans, many of whom made the trip from Detroit, were to witness a very special event. Legendary blues musician and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Buddy Guy was on hand to throw out the first pitch.

Buddy, a White Sox fan who wore a #11 jersey with his name on the back, seemed extremely excited to be given the opportunity to receive this national pastime honor. I got a chance to speak with Buddy on the field briefly before the special moment took place, and asked him what he felt about throwing out the first pitch.

"It's exciting! It's like a dream come true!" he replied. "I grew up with baseball. I used to play sandlot baseball down on the farm in Louisiana, and to be blessed to become a professional musician and to be invited to throw out the first pitch, you know, you keep things like that for the rest of your life! It's a once and a lifetime thing!"

"I wished I would have been good enough to play the game and been out there for real," Buddy said, when asked what it felt like to be on the field with a chance to throw a ball across the plate. When asked if he thought he could get one across the plate and get someone out, he laughed and said "not now; the players are a lot smarter than they were in my time, they got so much stuff that I probably couldn't even see the ball the way they would hit it back to me so hard."

When asked what he thought of the 2011 White Sox season so far, Buddy said "it looks good as long as you got a chance to get in. I just talked to Ozzie and I told him I'm bringing him a win tonight and he said he needs it, and he thanked me."

It seems the music icon's intuition and karma was with the White Sox as they indeed went on to win the game with a score of 6-3. It did feel like there was a special kind of energy and excitement on the field that night as Buddy Guy delivered Ozzie his win as promised.
