A Goddess Comes to
The Metro.
By Dan Locke
On the evening of October 7, 2014. I was invited to go check out a new
artist. Her name is Banks, and there
have been a lot of press on her, worldwide, but nothing really in the
Chicagoland area. And I wanted to be one
of the first to see her. I was hoping
for a photo pass (being a photographer more than a reviewer, but they told me
that the photopasses were max out).
It was a late show at the Metro. She came on a bit after 10pm. I was at the side of the stage (stage left),
but still had a good point of view of her performance. She enter the stage with a big smile on her
face, with her intro playing behind her.
She was dress in all black. The
guys in the Metro were in love with her looks and voice. All the girls were overwhelm with her looks.
She had a beautiful voice. Her voice was a mixture of Sade and Flona
Apple with a little bit of Erykah Badu mixed on top. The performance was great, but she needs to
interact with the crowd more. She would just
stand in the same spot for most the show, expect for the times she was
interacting with her band (dancing a little bit). And during other times she would leave her spot
to get closer to the crowd she would walk over to them with a model walk (like
on runway).
To me it almost felt like she was singing to a track, but I
could be wrong. I enjoyed her show. And I would love to see her in a bigger
place.
