Former Hawks Among Seven Inducted Into Hall of Fame
The Hockey Hall of Fame announced its 2015 induction
class on Monday, and one of the names will be familiar to Chicago
Blackhawks fans. Former Hawk Bill Hay was inducted as part of the
Builder’s Category.
Hay, who spent eight seasons with the Blackhawks during
the late 1950’s and a good part of the 1960’s, was lauded for his work
as the President of Hockey Canada, and he was also recognized for his
role as Chairman of the Hockey Hall of Fame.
“Being recognized by my hockey peers is truly a great
honour,” Hay said in a statement. “Seeing the game — and the Hockey Hall
of Fame — become truly international has been a tremendously rewarding
experience.”
Joining Hay in this year’s class in the Builder
Category was Peter Karmanos, Jr. He was the owner of the Carolina
Hurricanes when they won the Stanley Cup in 2006.
Five players were also inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, with former Blackhawks player Phil Housley joining the group.
Housley played in 137 games for the Blackhawks near the
end of his career, scoring 21 goals and dishing out 47 assists in those
contests. He appeared in five playoff games for the team during the
2001-02 season, notching an assist in his limited action.
“I am absolutely elated to be entering the Hockey Hall
of Fame as part of the Class of 2015,” he said. “One glance at the
legends who have already been enshrined proves that this really is the
ultimate honour for a hockey player.”
Chris Pronger, Nicklas Lidstrom, Sergei Federov and Angela Ruggiero were also inducted as part of this year’s class of players.
